Board of Education, Administrative Structure
The Knox County School System operates within policies set by a nine-member Board of Education. Board members are elected by district to four-year terms. Their constituency includes residents within Knox County (including the municipalities of Knoxville and Farragut). This body gives direction and leadership for all public schools within the county. The Board appoints the Superintendent. The system has one Deputy Superintendent, and an Administrative Assistant to the superintendent and Deputy Superintendent. There are two Assistant Superintendents:
In addition there is an Executive Director of Finance, a Chief Technology Officer, and Director of Public Affairs. Responsibilities are divided among various department Directors, Supervisors, and Specialists.
