Physical Education K – 8

Physical education plays a major role in the overall education of the children in Knox County.  The skills learned in physical education prepare children physically, but also develop readiness skills for success in the classroom.  The goal of K8 physical education is to contribute to the total growth and development of the child, primarily through selected movement experiences and physical activity.

Physical Education 9 – 12

The goal of Physical Education I is to provide a variety of activities through four strands:  Health Related Fitness; Individual Sports; Team Sports; and Basic Gymnastics Fundamentals.  Each unit within the strand will be designed to teach basic skills, rules and strategies necessary to understand and perform a variety of activities.

The goal of Advanced Physical Education is to provide progressive skills, techniques and strategies in various activities (Prerequisite:  Physical Education I).

The goal of Conditioning and Advanced Strength Training is to allow students to make gains in conditioning, muscle tone, and strength while emphasizing the importance of making an active health lifestyle a lifelong practice.  Health and skill related activities such as flexibility, speed, agility, coordination and power, along with self-discipline and a positive attitude is the course focus.

The goal of Aerobics is to emphasize the importance in improving and maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system.  Skills taught in order to achieve this goal include muscular endurance, muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and body composition.

Health & Wellness

Health K – 8

The overall goal of health is to introduce children to the basic knowledge and skills needed to establish healthy living habits, personal healthcare, and the availability of community health providers.

Wellness 9 - 12

The goal of Lifetime Wellness is for students to learn a lifelong process of positive lifestyle management that seeks to integrate the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical dimensions of self for a longer, more productive and higher quality of life.
