How to Apply

 

CERTIFIED POSITIONS:

As a part of the Knox County School System Affirmative Action Plan, vacant positions are advertised on this web site between June and the beginning of each school year. Interim and temporary positions which occur during a school year are not advertised.

Applicants who have a completed application on file will be considered for any certified vacant position (advertised and non-advertised) for which the applicant is licensed.

Interviews will be initiated and scheduled by the Department of Human Resources for applicants who have a complete application file.

A completed application file includes:

  • Transcript
  • Photocopy of Tennessee Teacher License (Superintendent's Copy with code numbers)
  • Copy of appropriate Praxis testing requirements for issuance of a Tennessee Teaching License (Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) and/or Specialty Area) or Highly Qualified Status
  • Sealed/Signed Reference Form(s) (maximum of three) - It is the applicant's responsibility to return these forms to Knox County Schools.
  • Verification of Highly Qualified Status by completing the Teacher Quality Assurance Page

After one year, applications become inactive. If you want your application to remain in the active file, please login using your username and password to update your application.

Applicants for the 2008-09 school year, current certified temporary contracts, interns, and all NEW applicants must apply online.

Note to Certified Applicants:
VACANCIES DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR:
Interim and temporary positions which occur after mid-July are not advertised. In keeping with the Memorandum of Agreement between Knox County Schools and the Knox County Education Association, vacancies after mid-July are filled from the existing applicant pool on a temporary, non-tenure basis and advertised as a vacancy for the following school year.

To become a part of the available pool of applicants, individuals are encouraged to complete an application on-line and submit it at any time.

Applications for substitute teaching positions for the school year may be picked up in the Human Resources Office. Substitute Teacher applications MUST be obtained in person at the Knox County Schools Personnel Office on the 15th Floor of the Andrew Johnson Building, 912 S. Gay Street.
