About the Magnet Program

Knox County Schools’ Magnet Program began in 1993 as a school-within-a-school component for students from kindergarten through grade twelve.  Each elementary, middle and high school program focus was designed and implemented as the result of a countywide survey of parents and students.

Students choosing the Magnet program experience a peer group of rich diversity, teachers and staff with expertise in focused areas and community members who are leaders in their field.  Three elementary schools, one middle and one high school support specialized classes for the interested student.

Students entering a magnet program during the elementary grades are able to continue course interests through their high school career.   Conversely, students applying to the middle or high school magnet program at any time during their school years are able to enter at the appropriate learning level.

Each Magnet School provides the core of classes required for all Knox County Schools’ students.  Additionally, each Magnet School is also a Project GRAD (Graduation Really Achieves Dreams) school.
