October is the "Month of the Young Adolescent" and Knox County
middle schools will mark this occasion in a number of ways on Oct. 25.
This is the fifth year that the nation has celebrated October as the "Month
of the Young Adolescent," to draw attention to the special needs
of 10-15 year old students. Attached is a list of activities that various
middle schools will conduct to raise awareness of the "Month of the
Young Adolescent."
Media interested in covering any of these events should contact the individual
school or the Knox County Schools Public Affairs Office.
- Bearden: Present every student with a Certificate of Recognition
Positive referral day
- Carter: After school celebration dance
- Farragut: Positive referral day
- Gresham: Positive referral day with certificate presented to those
who are referred to the office
- Halls: Special announcement/recognition over intercom and drawings
for prizes
- Holston: Positive referral day. PTSO will provide treats for students
who are referred.
- Karns: Positive referral day with certificates for those students
In-school "Thank you" dance (2:00-3:15)
- Northwest: Positive referral day with name badges and certificates
presented to students
Character Counts Activity- Teams will select "Superlatives"-Most
Trustworthy, Most Responsible, Most Caring, Most Fair, Best Citizenship,
and
Most Respectful- to be announced on the 25th
- Powell: A school-wide dance from 2:30-3:15
- South-Doyle: Certificates and ribbons will be given out on the 25th
Two students from each team given official proclamation by Commissioners
Clark and Pinkston
Cherokee TV show with graphics and music
- Whittle Springs: Positive referral day with certificates and treats
for students referred
Fall Festival, 4:00pm-8:00pm. Each team sponsors a booth or activity-
games, balloons, half-court shoot in gym, Polaroid picture-making, book
fair,
freedom buttons, cakewalk, hot dogs, nachos, pizza, etc.
