Educator is President Elect of NSDC A long time Knox County educator was recently chosen to be the next president of the National Staff Development Council. Marti Richardson, supervisor of staff development and extended learning programs for Knox County Schools was chosen to be president-elect by the NSDC Board of Trustees May, 2001. The National Staff Development Council was founded in 1969, and is the largest non-profit professional association committed to ensuring success for all students through staff development and school improvement. It now has an international membership of 11,000 educators. Richardson will begin her term as president-elect at the conclusion of the 2001 NSDC Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, December 5, 2001. She will become president at the conclusion of the 2002 NSDC Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, December 4, 2002 . She has been active with NSDC for some time. Richardson joined the NSDC board in December 1998, and in 1997, she was chair of the host committee for the NSDC Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Opryland Hotel in which 5,000 participants attended from all over the world. She was an organizer, and past president of the Tennessee Staff Development Council. She has been an NSDC member for 17 years. In addition to serving as the supervisor of staff development and extended learning programs, Richardson is also the Teacher Center director for Knox County. Im honored and challenged to be selected to lead a group of international educators that is committed to achieving data-driven school and district goals particularly those addressing high levels of learning and performance for all students and staff members, said Richardson. I strongly believe that the primary purpose of staff development should be to help educators develop the insights, knowledge, and skills they need to be effective classroom and school leaders who are better able to increase learning." |
