Knox County Schools Hire New Supervisor of Accounting Systems

The Knox County Public School System on Wednesday hired a respected local accountant to fill the position of Supervisor of Accounting Systems and Financial Control.

Ron McPherson, a senior accountant with the Knox County Department of Finance, has accepted the position with the school system. When he will begin his new duties has not been determined.

"We have recognized the need to address the absence of a seasoned, trained accountant since we discovered the problems we were having in benefits management and food service," said Superintendent Charles Lindsey. "Our efforts to improve in these areas by employing a qualified benefits manager and food service administrator have definitely paid off this year, and Ron’s knowledge and experience will further improve our efforts in the area of finance. Hiring Ron underscores our commitment to keep the Knox County School System financially sound and well managed," Lindsey added.

McPherson graduated from the University of Tennessee where he majored in accounting. He has over eight years of experience in governmental accounting and is very knowledgeable in this area. His experience includes:

    • Performing analytical work wit the employees fringe benefits of Knox County
    • Performing analytical work with workers compensation and general liability claims
    • Preparing Comprehensive Annual Financial reports
    • Maintenance and analysis of the general ledger for all of the county’s funds
    • Determining weekly bond draw requests for funding ongoing capital projects
    • Preparing the annual county-wide Services Cost Allocation Plan
    • Preparing general ledger support and analytical financial work with E911

In the execution of his duties, McPherson will interface with Knox County’s internal auditor as well as assist in the external audit of the district. He will also coordinate all financial activities of the district with the Superintendent’s staff, and will be responsible for financial reporting to the State of Tennessee. McPherson will implement additional accounting systems and controls for the financial activities of the district.
