Teacher Supply Depot to Open Saturday

The Teacher Supply Depot will be open for the first time during the 2002-2003 school year Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The depot, located at 232 Churchwell Avenue in Knoxville, is a cooperative venture of Knox County Schools, the Knox County Council PTA, Knox County Government, the Knox County Education Association, Goodwill Industries and the Chamber Partnership.

The Teacher Supply Depot is a unique way for the community and local businesses to partner with the school system to provide material support to the classroom teacher. Since its inception about two years ago, many businesses and community members have stepped forward to donate materials, money and time to the depot. This has made it possible for the depot to provide over 1100 teachers with material estimated to be worth over $130,000.00.

The depot is not open every day, but is opened several times each school year to give teachers an opportunity replenish supplies they may need for the classroom. It is scheduled to be open four times this school year.

Media interesting in covering this event are encouraged to come to the Teacher Supply Depot anytime during the day Saturday.
