Knox County middle schools celebrate the adolescent
October marks the sixth annual national celebration of the “Month of the Young Adolescent,” and Knox County middle schools will join the celebration in a number of ways.

The “Month of the Young Adolescent” was initiated by National Middle School Association in collaboration with many organizations, including American Association for Health Education, American Bar Association Division for Public Education, National 4-H Council and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. This month-long celebration focuses on the needs of 10 to 15 year old young people.

“We are working together to build strong partnerships among the school, parents, students, and community members to help ensure that each young adolescent will have the opportunity to realize his or her full potential,” said Susan Davis, assistant principal at Cedar Bluff Middle School and the Knox County Schools coordinator for the event. “Knox County middle schools are celebrating MYA on a countywide level, as well as individually.”

Together each of our fourteen Knox County Middle Schools will have student work displayed at Knoxville Center from October 1st through October 24th. They will also display student work at the City County Building from October 15t through October 11. This will include a variety of work from academic classes, as well as art, technology education and other classes.

“Students from each middle school have written about what it is like to be and adolescent, and some of these works quotes will be read during the morning and afternoon announcements at each school,” said Davis.

Additional information on the “Month of the Young Adolescent” may be found at the National Middle School Association website www.nmsa.org.
