Adult Edcuation offers computer classesAdult Business and Information Technology offers 24 hours of computer training in three courses this summer for teachers needing recertification or wanting computer training. Classes are in MicroSoft Word, Excel, and Office XP. (Schedule)
Transforming Teaching with Technology workshop July 18Tennessee Educational Technology Association (TETA) is sponsoring T3 -Transforming Teaching with Technology on July 18, 2008 at Alcoa High School. This day is in conjunction with Summer Institute 2008 and will draw presenters from educational technology professionals from all across the state of Tennessee. (More Information , Register )

Upcoming Opportunities for KCS Classified StaffFor information on all these opportunities or to register, go to Teacher U.Conference for Classified Staff in KCS, July 17, 8:00 to 4:00 Attitude, Behavior, and Character is the theme for the second annual conference for classified staff. Focusing on instruction, Kay Augustine will be the featured speaker with workshops on classroom management, stress, diverse learners, use of technology, wellness, employment issues, plus much more. Earn 7 hours of unscheduled inservice for 2008-2009. Communications Workshop for KCS Office Staff, HOLD THIS DATE: July 10. Registration and more information will be available soon. Equity Issues in the Classroom, June 11, 8:00 to 3:30 This annual conference, sponsored by AAUW and LMU, will focus on diversity issues such as poverty and gender which affect the classroom. Earn six hours of unscheduled inservice for 2008-2009 while participating in workshops led by LMU instructors, area teachers and administrators, and Marty Iroff. Instructional Technology Workshops on ActivBoard, Basic Computer Navigation and Utilization for the Classroom, GarageBand, iMovie, Comic Life, FileMaker Pro9.0, Intro to Leopard, Nettrekker, Office 2007, SchoolFusion and more are scheduled for this summer. Most workshops are three hours. On-line Courses from the Department of Education, MTSU, and Annenberg can be accessed through TeacherU. SmartFIX I-40 Closure InformationBeginning on May 1, 2008, a short section of Interstate 40 between James White Parkway (exit 388A) and Hall of Fame Drive (exit 389) will be closed for reconstruction. Local eastbound traffic will continue to use James White Parkway (exit 388A) and local westbound traffic will continue to use Hall of Fame Drive (exit 389) to access the downtown area, the South Knoxville Bridge and Neyland Drive. Traffic that normally passes through downtown on I-40 should use I-640 or I-275 to bypass the closure. The closure will last for approximately 14 months. If you are unable to mail this far in advance, we suggest hand delivering it to our office. We are not responsible for mail issues that prevent you from meeting the deadline. Incomplete documentation could delay the payment for your activity so please make sure that your documentation is compete and in order before you submit. In all cases, acceptable completed paperwork must be on file in the ELP office by August 25, 2008 in order to qualify for payment.
